Max20 Digital Transformation for the NHS

Mentorship Programme

QUOTE FROM PAUL MAYNARD?
In a recent survey, over 80% of school leavers in the UK (United Kingdom) believed that only Doctors and Nurses worked in the NHS.
FACT: With a total of 1.5 million employees, the NHS (National Health Service) is the 5th largest employer in the world and indeed, the largest employer in Europe. Of the 1.5 million employees, ~50% are employed in a non-medical, non-clinical capacity.

Non-medical, non-clinical roles include receptionists, accountants, IT specialists, caterers, engineers, architects and plumbers. With over 350 different career opportunities, there is a role to suit all interests and qualifications. The two largest areas of non-medical employment within the NHS are:

  • Admin and Clerical
  • Digital (IT) specialists
FACT: The total number of job vacancies in the NHS is around 130,000.
FACT: Over the next 5-10 years, every NHS Trust in England is aiming to have a fully working EPR (Electronic Patient Record) system connected to the NHS Spine. If successful, this would mean that every NHS Trust will be able to communicate with every other NHS Trust and transfer data seamlessly.
The predicted national shortage of experienced IT specialists in the UK, from the most junior to the most senior, is already putting the NHS under pressure due to significant financial pressures from the private sector. This pressure will only increase.

max20 is keen to help and encourage the next generation of digital support for the NHS.

max20 has built its reputation as the premier supplier of non-medical IT (Digital) and Admin specialists on its excellence in the supply and management of the programmes and people that power the systems that support the NHS. The max20 Mentorship Academy is a unique, pragmatic and potentially highly effective way to support the NHS in its need for more specialist IT and Admin skills.

Project Objective

max20, (a long-standing Crown Commercial Service supplier to the NHS) is a well-established and highly regarded IT and Admin outsourcing provider for healthcare. The company proposes to use the high-level of IT job satisfaction and career opportunities in the NHS to launch new IT talent into the NHS at NO COST to our health service.

The programme will provide participants with valuable work experience, training, and potential permanent employment opportunities within the NHS.

max20 will supply mentees to work within the IT /Digital department of an NHS Trust at no initial financial cost whatsoever. This would be for a term of 3 months which could be extended by a further 3 months making a total of 6 months free of charge to the NHS. After the first 3-month period the mentee could be offered a permanent role within the NHS. After the 6-month period the mentee can either be offered a full-time permanent role within the Trust or the mentee’s contract can be extended and the Trust will be charged the mentee’s hourly rate plus a small admin and payrolling fee all of which will be managed by max20. Mentee Adil

This year we kicked off the max20 Mentorship Programme by fully-funding the placement of a bright young student, Adil Ahmed, through six weeks of work experience in the IT delivery department at a well-known NHS teaching Trust.

Throughout his placement, Adil recorded a brief video diary when he got home from the hospital to give future mentees a flavour of what he was asked to do, what he learnt about the digital side of the NHS and some thoughts about what a career in IT for a Trust might entail.
