If you have ever missed the buzz of five a side but not the sprints, walking football is the perfect way back in. Same passes, same teamwork, same laughs, just played at a gentler pace. It is welcoming, low impact and, judging by the smiles on the pitch, seriously good fun.
That is why we sponsor the Wythenshawe Warriors Walking Football Club. The Warriors are exactly what community sport should be: inclusive, volunteer led and open to anyone who wants to move more, make friends and feel part of a team again. This year’s Annual Tournament banner even carries our logo, something we are genuinely proud of.
What makes walking football special
Players tell us the game has helped them rebuild fitness after injury, manage long term health conditions and boost their confidence. The social side matters just as much as the exercise: a weekly routine, a reason to get out and a group that has got your back. You can see it in the photos, quick feet, tidy passing and plenty of grins (plus the odd club mascot trotting through).
Hear it from the Warriors
We have filmed short conversations with players and organisers about how they found walking football, the health challenges they have faced and what the club has done for them, physically and mentally. Their stories are honest and uplifting. Watch the clips below to hear, in their own words, why the weekly whistle makes such a difference.
The Annual Tournament (sponsored by max20)
The Warriors host the Wythenshawe Warriors WFC Annual Tournament, now in its fourth year and growing fast. The next event kicks off on Saturday 27 September 2025 in Droylsden, bringing 12 teams together for a full day of competitive, good natured football. Expect a strong line up from across Wales including Mold Town, Prestatyn WFC, Connah’s Quay, alongside familiar names from the Manchester region and beyond such as Stockport Strollers, Binnington Old Boys, Leeds United Whites, and others.
Denton Town arrive as the current champions, while the Wythenshawe Warriors are still chasing their first tournament win, something the whole community will be getting behind. As proud sponsors, we will be there on the day supporting the organisers, cheering on the teams and celebrating the spirit that makes this event special.
Why max20 is involved
Our day job is delivering digital services for the NHS. As an organisation that benefits from the NHS, we are keen to give back, especially to grassroots activities that support health, wellbeing and community connection. Backing the Warriors is a simple, practical way to do that.
Walking football hits the sweet spot for us: it improves physical health, lifts mental wellbeing and builds community. We are proud to support the Wythenshawe Warriors and cannot wait to see more people lace up and give it a go.
